NEW MAS (MUSEUM AAN DE STROOM) MUSEUM
Antwerp, Belgium, 1999
The new MAS Museum is designed as the treasure arc of Antwerp: a timeless container, a culture box floating over the city. It appears as, if it had always been there, mysterious as a sealed light box, and secure as a monolithic piece of art. The project is further articulated by a linear light sculpture, a new metropolitan surrounding square, the large atrium with the reception crystals, that leads to the city panorama promenade. The project is conceived as the 'Pharos' of Antwerp, a lucid guide reflecting Antwerp's cultural significance.
