THREE MONUMENTAL TOMBS
Thessaloniki, 2000-2002
The notion of symbolism and the delicate nature of this project lead to a primal, yet conceptually powerful architectural gesture. The burial ceremony implies a procedure of differentiation between the two levels of existence, before and after. These levels are manifested in the form of two vertically intersected surfaces, a marble and a crystal one. The notion of the past materializes the geometry of a solid, robust, marble prismatic volume. The notion of after diffracts through the tinted surface of a crystal diaphragm. The traces of the past transmit to the next, from the marble gravel to crystal, from stability to fluidity.
