RESTORATION OF A LISTED BUILDING AND ADDITION OF NEW BUILDINGS
Nicosia, Cyprus 2016
The project concerns a two storey listed stone building situated in the historic center of Nicosia and the addition of new buildings next to it. The shape of the plot, the ability to access it from the two parallel roads that define it and the need for privacy inside the dense urban web determined the basic design principles. The transition between the listed and the new buildings as wel as between the new buildings is made by glass metal structures with blinds in order to preserve the distinct form of each building as well as the historical faces in which they belong. Local stone in isodomic masonry is used for the facades of the new buildings, as well as for all of their architectural elements such as columns, bannisters etc.
