OMONOIA SQUARE
Athens, Greece, 1998
The square is composed out of historic references in a simultaneous geometric effect. Neoclassical forms, the circle, modern austere lines, the water, the 'runner' sculpture, palm trees, contemporary technology, the Metro station, art, images of the future. The centre of the square encourages verve and movement, and defines tranquil niches to pause and rest. The former circle still demarcates the square as it does in the people's minds. A semi-circle gains height inclined towards Athens' commercial triangle with a view to the Acropolis.
