SUMMER HOUSE IN ANTIPAROS
Soros, Antiparos, Cyclades, Greece 2010
The landscape on which the residence is located is typical Cycladic, simple and rough, on the top of a steep slope that fades in the sea. The design is based on the principles of the form of the existing house.
As it is placed in the middle of a small golf, two main axes, on which the existing building is based, are preserved, thus all the interior and exterior spaces of the house are orientated towards the sea and the view. The main exterior space, an integral part of the everyday summer life, is defined by the joint of these two axes. Therefore, this area is properly protected by the sun and the strong wind.
The stone construction, the building's orientation, and the house's spatial arrangement provide natural ventilation. Concrete is used to configure the open spaces in a way that is complementing the design's clean-cut lines.
