BIOGRAPHY

Katerina Tsigarida was born in Athens in 1956. She graduated from the School of Architecture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and continued her studies in the Architectural Association in London. She has collaborated with OMA in London (1980-1984) and with  and Elia Zengelis in Athens. She has started up her own practice in 1984 in Athens and from 1987 she is based in Thessaloniki.

Among her major works are: The New Helexpo Gates in Thessalonki (1997, finalist for the European Union Contemporary Architecture Awards-Mies van der Rohe award), the East Metropolitan Axis in Thessaloniki (1997), The new White Tower square in Thessaloniki (2006) and the summer house in Andros island (2004, praise within the Greek Institute of Architecture awards competition).
She participated with various patterns of distinction in numerous architectural competitions such as: «New Interchange Station in Venice: Fusina Terminal» (Italy 1998), «Arhus City Vs Arhus Harbour» (Denmark 1999), «Latina ReInvented, New Agriculture as Agros & Culture» (Italy 2005), while she has gained the first prize for the GEK competition for «The Housing Complex in Metaxourgio» (Athens, 2006).

She participated with her work in architecture exhibitions such as the 1st Biennale of young Greek architects (1995), the 1st Biennale of landscape architecture in Barcelona (1999), the 7th Venice Biennale (2000), the 3rd Biennale of young Greek architects (2001) and the 10th Venice Biennale (2006).

Various projects have been published in Greek and foreign periodicals as well as in international publications such as The Phaidon Atlas of Contemporary World Architecture (Phaidon Press 2004), At Home in Greece (Thames & Hudson 2004), Mediterranean Modern (Thames & Hudson 2006), Greek Architecture Now (2006)..
