SYNTAGMA SQUARE
Athens, Greece, 1998 - 1999
The square is determined in form by the monumental east - west axis which is preserved to reinforce symmetry. The architectural forms ornamenting and underlining the elevations of this axis reflect a rich morphological vocabulary and represents successive distinct chronic codes of the city. A wide variety of small scale configurations, plantations, water, pedestals, benches and artwork, are integrated in a rectangular grid and enrich the spatial experience. Local white marble demarcated by gray lines on the floor transcend mere memory and impose a new, overall rhythm.
